Title:
Nanomaterials for Health, Energy and the Environment
Venue: Asian Institute of Technology (AIT)
Sponsors: Center of Excellence in Nanotechnology and Nanotec (NSTDA)
City: Klong Luang, Pathumthani, near Bangkok, Thailand
Date: December 21 – 22, 2009

Nanotechnology is expected to significantly impact health, energy and environmental technology – not just by enabling preexisting technologies and developing revolutionary ones but also by changing the way we live. Therefore, study of societal implications, policy and workforce development are also part of the mission of the Center of Excellence in Nanotechnology and Nanotec (NSTDA) in Bangkok, Thailand.

Nanotechnology is expected to permeate many areas of science and technology outside the traditionally strong fields of R&D and engineering. The changing scenario of technology and product development is leading to a challenge for the academic community and scientists with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to interact and provide leadership in the emerging field of Nanotechnology.

In the Asia-Pacific region, as in other parts of the world, it is important that qualified human resources are developed within a short span of time to address the future requirements of workers in the field of Nanotechnology to maintain competitiveness and enhance future economic growth of the region.

Aims
This conference is intended to showcase Nanotechnology activities in Thailand. The specific goals are as follows:

  • Discuss about Nanotechnology in Thailand
  • Identify and discuss possible collaborations amongst the participants
  • Identify and discuss the need to develop specific programs in Nanotechnology
  • Identify and discuss steps that can be taken to implement new activities in Health, Energy and Environment
  • Identify and discuss ways to cater to present and future industry needs
  • Identify and discuss about future joint inter-region and inter-University programs in this multidisciplinary field
